Despite the US veto, Algeria determined to make Palestine's voice heard within the SC

Algeria continues to reiterate its "inexhaustible determination" to continue its efforts within the United Nations Security Council, to push it to fully assume its responsibilities and to call for a ceasefire in Gaza where the Zionist massacres against the disarmed Palestinian people continue with total impunity.

Since the start of its mandate in January 2024 as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Algeria, on the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has intensified its efforts to make the voice heard loud and clear. voice of the Palestinian people within this central organ of the United Nations by convening emergency meetings dedicated to this just cause.

However, Algiers' efforts are coming up against the Security Council's inability to live up to the calls and aspirations of the people, particularly after its umpteenth failure on Tuesday to call for an immediate ceasefire in the Strip. Ghaza, following the veto opposed by the United States during the vote on a draft resolution presented by Algeria to this effect.

Regretting this failure, Algeria, through its permanent representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, reaffirmed that it "will not stop until the Security Council fully assumes its responsibilities and calls for a ceasefire".

"Tonight, we bury our martyrs in Palestine. Tomorrow, Algeria will return in the name of the Arab-Muslim Nation and free men around the world, and with us, the souls of the thousands of innocents murdered by the occupier Israeli with total impunity, to knock on the doors of the Council and demand an end to the bloodbath in Palestine", Mr. Bendjama reacted in his intervention after the vote.

And to insist: "We will not stop until this Council has assumed its full responsibility and called for a ceasefire, because our will is iron and our determination is inexhaustible."

As a reminder, Algeria presented the draft resolution for humanitarian reasons. Thirteen states voted in favor of this text, while the American veto was denounced by several countries, some seeing it as a "green light" for the Zionist entity to perpetrate more massacres in occupied Palestine.
