Algeria/Iran: Consensus of views in championing just causes

Algeria and Iran confirmed, on Sunday, the consensus of their views regarding various regional and international issues, especially with regard to supporting just causes in the world, most notably the Palestinian issue, as well as maintaining international peace and stability.

In this regard, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, explained in a joint press statement following the talks he held with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Ibrahim Raisi, who is on an official visit to Algeria, that this meeting was “an opportunity to review developments in the Sahel region in light of prevailing conditions and addressing the issue of Western Sahara,” expressing his satisfaction “at the concurrence of views and agreement to continue efforts to contribute to establishing stability in this region and maintaining peace and security at the regional and international levels.”

The President of the Republic indicated that he had a “lengthy and in-depth conversation” with his Iranian counterpart about “the exceptional circumstances that characterize the current situation regionally and internationally, especially the Zionist aggression and its heinous crimes in the Gaza Strip,” appreciating in this context “the positions of the Iranian leadership in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and its assistance to the Palestinians.” And his rejection of the Zionist entity’s ongoing genocidal practices in Gaza in light of the silence and shameful complicity of some countries.

The President of the Republic added that he agreed with his Iranian counterpart to intensify coordination and consultation regarding the Palestinian issue, reaffirming “the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital on the June 1967 borders.”

The President of the Republic said in this regard: “We have noted with interest the decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the lawsuit filed by the State of South Africa regarding the commission of genocide in Gaza by the Zionists,” noting that he “instructed the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations to request an emergency meeting on This issue, as this meeting was held and other meetings will be held at the request of Algeria.”

After applauding the Iranian position in support of Algeria's membership in the UN Security Council, the President of the Republic reaffirmed that Algeria "will work relentlessly to support just causes in the world and reduce conflicts that pose a threat to the stability of countries and the tranquility of peoples."

He stated that Algeria and Iran are linked by “historical relations built on bonds of sincere brotherhood and keenness on close cooperation,” highlighting that the leaderships of the two countries “are making continuous efforts to strengthen brotherly relations.”

The President of the Republic considered that "today's meeting is an important step during which we touched on bilateral relations in general and discussed ways to promote them," reiterating on the same occasion "his determination to make serious efforts to advance these relations to the level that reflects the common political will of the two countries."

On the same occasion, the President of the Republic renewed his thanks to the Iranian President for his attendance at the seventh summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which was - as he said - “successful thanks to the friends and brothers of Algeria, including Iran.”

In turn, the Iranian President affirmed the identical positions of the two countries regarding "the war crimes and genocide committed by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people and its insistence on killing children and women and destroying homes."

In this context, the Iranian President praised the positions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in defending the right of the oppressed Palestinian people, noting also Algeria’s positions in the International Court of Justice and its advocacy in favor of this just cause, in addition to its efforts to maintain security and stability in the region, which is-- As he said - "a positive trend established by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune."
