Paris Olympics: The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, honours medal winning athletes
ALGIERS- The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, honoured Wednesday, at the Palace of El-Mouradia in Algiers, the Algerian medal winning athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024 that wrapped up on Sunday.
"The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has honoured today the champions of Algeria, medal winners at the Paris Olympics 2024, namely Imane Khelif (gold medal), Kaylia Nemour (gold medal) and Djamel Sedjati (bronze medal), by awarding them the Medal of the National Order of Merit with financial rewards, in a ceremony attended by their families," the presidency of the Republic said in a statement.
The awarding ceremony was also attended by the chief of staff of the People's National Army, the chief of staff of the presidency of the Republic, the president of the Republic's private secretary and advisor, the secretary general of the presidency of the Republic, the minister of Youth and Sports, the head of the Association of African National Olympic Committees and the coaches of the athletes.
The Algerian delegation to the Paris Olympics 2024 returned back in Algiers on Monday, where it was welcomed at the Houari Boumediene Airport by the minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrahmane Hammad, along with civil and military officials.
The gold medals were won by Gymnast Kaylia Nemour in the asymmetric bars and boxer Imane Khelif in the 66kg event while athlete Djamel Sedjati won a bronze medal in the 800m event.
Algeria competed in the Paris Olympics with a delegation of 46 athletes (27 men and 19 women), in 15 different sports disciplines.
